In some instances when a tooth needs a very large filling the dentist may recommend an inlay or an onlay. These are very strong fibre, reinforced porcelain filings, which are made in a dental laboratory. After the dentist has shaped and cleaned the tooth he will take a mould of the tooth with a special putty like material .This is given to our dental lab and it takes them a few days to manufacture the inlay so that it fits your tooth perfectly.
While we are waiting for the finished product we place a temporary filling into the tooth . At the next appointment we will cement the inlay into your tooth. The inlay or onlay is able to hold the tooth together and prevent a possible fracture, which a normal filling could not. They last much longer than ordinary fillings and are exactly the same colour as your tooth.
